Education and Libraries
Community Service Program
Jane Cunningham Croly formed the General Federation of Women’s Clubs “to support clubs throughout the nation and further their efforts at providing education, improved working conditions, health care, scholarships and other reforms.” The GFWC Brandon Service League’s Education and Libraries Program works to improve literacy and education awareness in our community at home and around the world.
Ideas for promoting literacy and lifelong learning by:
-
- Encouraging members and others to foster and support educational opportunities for all ages in their communities.
- Promoting and supporting Epsilon Sigma Omicron, an honorary educational society open to all per capita paying GFWC members that provides clubwomen with a structured reading program for self-enrichment and personal growth.
- Educating members and others on ways to improve low adult and youth literacy rates.
- Supporting libraries in their efforts to provide information and materials and educational opportunities.

Do You Volunteer at a Local School?
School is back in session and I know many of our members are involved at your children’s or grandchildren’s schools. Please wear your BSL name tag and keep an informal note of how many hours you donate. We would really like an idea of how much volunteer time our members give to our local schools.
Epsilon Sigma Omicron (ESO) . . . do you enjoy the love of reading?
Join our reading group! ESO is an honorary reading sorority sponsored by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Membership is open to everyone who chooses to participate. It is $5 per year for membership and a fun group. Contact Jeri Robinson for more information.
BoxTops for Education and Campbell’s Soup Labels
Remember to bring your boxtops for education and your Campbel’s soup labels to the meetings and give them to Judy Darsey or to an Education Community Service Member. These do help our schools purchase many different items.
